One Day Without Shoes 2011 Recap

Posted on January 20, 2012 at 8:13 AM

Last year’s One Day Without Shoes was truly a global event – over 1,000 events in over 25 countries were held worldwide, including the UK, Greece, Austrailia, South Africa, Kenya, Japan, South Korea, Puerto Rico and Mexico. That’s 6 out of 7 continents...we’re looking at you, Antarctica!

Check out some of the highlights!

People of all ages took their shoes off to spark conversations and spread awareness together. TOMS Campus Programs, retailers and local groups of all types got involved – from roller derby leagues to bookstores.

And the Barefoot Challenge attracted thousands to go without shoes with their organizations, including Patagonia, Zappos and Southwest Airlines, as well as universities, nonprofits and a variety of community groups. The winner? Purdue University with 10,268 pledges. (Nicely done, boilermakers!)

A lot of famous feet turned out, too, including Demi Moore, Charlize Theron, Heather Graham, Lenny Kravitz, The National, Cut Copy, Bucky Lasek, Juan Pablo Angel and others.

This year’s One Day Without Shoes clearly has a lot to live up to…  Join us!
